Advice to Anyone Who Feels Stuck in Life
A close friend of mine is trying to figure out what to do with his life. He’s been working different dead-end jobs. He doesn’t like them, and he’s never made a lot of money. So he’s trying to figure out what to do. The problem that he’s facing is that he has so many different options. He’s looked into becoming a security guard. He’s looked into opening a restaurant. He’s thought about working in the family business. He’s hesitating getting started with something because he feels as if whatever he chooses will be what he does for the rest of his life.
Are You Hesitating?
Can you relate to that? You don’t get started on eBay or Amazon or even YouTube because you tell yourself, “I don’t know if that’s what I want to do the rest of my life. I don’t know if that’s right for me.” Or maybe you have such a huge dream that you convince yourself not to take a lower-end job right now because it’s not the field you want to go into.
It’s almost as if you have a key that will essentially unlock your future. But what you are doing is only driving around and looking at houses without actually walking up to a door, sticking the key in, and turning it to see if the door opens up. You look at all these opportunities, but then you tell yourself, “Well, that kind of looks interesting. But what if it doesn’t work out? What if I am sick of it five years down the road?” So you just keep driving on and on.
Open Your Mind to Opportunities
Living is learning. Living is doing. Be open to trying different things. Start different businesses. Take different jobs. Experiment with different opportunities. You never really know what’s going to be right for you or what will be a stepping stone to something better. You may have to unlock one door in order to see another door that is maybe a couple miles out. It may even be in a different direction, but the only way to get there is to go through that first door.
Many people say to themselves, “I don’t want to start an eBay business because my ultimate goal is to be making a hundred grand a month.”
But here is something to keep in mind. Starting that eBay business might be a good opportunity for you because it’s going to allow you to make enough money to make a move eventually.
Maybe you’re dead broke right now. Maybe you don’t have any money. Maybe your ultimate goal is to open a restaurant. Well, to open a restaurant, you might need $100,000 or even $500,000. How are you going to make that move to get that restaurant if you don’t have the money to invest in it? Sometimes you’ve got to take a step back to take a step forward.
So go ahead and start that eBay business. Or take a job as a security guard. Or work your way up as a line cook. Then 12, 24, or 36 months down the road you may be ready to make your move.
You Never Know Unless You Try
Don’t be scared to try new things. Don’t be afraid to give an opportunity a shot. You never know if that just might be your dream job. You may have an idea and a vision, but they are so black and white in your mind. Take a chance on opportunity.
Over the last five or six years, I’ve done so many different things—a YouTube channel, personal branding, internet marketing, Kindle publishing, eBay, Amazon, private label, wholesale, dropshipping. I’ve learned quickly what works for me and what doesn’t work. Sometimes one opportunity led to another opportunity, and then I met some particular person and started a business.
Give Yourself a Chance
You will never know what can happen until you give yourself a chance to succeed. Put that key into multiple doors and open them all up to see what happens. The worst thing is regret. The worst thing is thinking back and realizing that you have been like a hamster on a wheel spinning in place for the last five years. And then you are left asking yourself what would have happened if you would have tried that or started that business or taken that opportunity.
Give yourself a chance. Try different things. Start taking opportunities. Start taking shots. You may have been going through a lot of tough times over the years. Maybe you haven’t been dealt the best set of circumstances. But you are ultimately your own person. You are the one who gets to guide your ship. It’s up to you.
Just go for it. There are so many opportunities, and you’ll never know unless you take that shot. You’re never going to score a goal sitting on the sidelines. Be smart, go for it, and things will work out for you.
