RPS #063 – How To Stop Listening To The Negative Voice In Your Head

How to Stop Listening to the Negative Voice in Your Head

A few times I’ve found myself sitting in the car at the gym and procrastinating. Moments like these define us. Now, what moments am I talking about? It’s the moments where you decide if you are going to make the right decision, which is hard, or if you are going to make the wrong decision, which is easy.

Excuses, Excuses
Here’s how it works. I am driving to the gym and playing out a million excuses in my head as to why I don’t have to go to the gym. I’m tired. I don’t feel good. I can go later on when I feel better. I’m not meeting my personal trainer today, so no one will know if I don’t show up.

Being successful is all about our thoughts, which then lead to our decisions and our actions, which lead to our results. Our minds are constantly trying to find the easy way out. And the easy way out is never going to bring us success. Being successful is about doing the right things at the right time in every moment, each and every day. Today is what matters.

Your Mind Playing Tricks on You
We as individuals aren’t defined by the thoughts that go on in our minds. The human mind is millions of years old, and it’s always trying to protect us from things that really don’t even exist. A bunch of BS plays out in our heads. And if you’re trying to lose weight or start a business or are just struggling something, maybe you see somebody who is massively successful and you think it’s easy for them. I can tell you right now that these battles play out in all of our minds.

When these thoughts come into your mind, don’t take them at face value. Take four or five minutes before you make a decision and meditate on it. Think about it.

For example, those times I find myself sitting in my car in the gym parking lot and hesitating, instead of reacting and saying to myself, “Oh, I’m just going to go to Starbucks and ignore my workout,” I pause and think about my decision. And then I know that when I wake up tomorrow, if I don’t do what I need to do today, which is go to the gym, I’m going to feel regret. I’m going to feel bad. I’m going to feel sluggish. I’ll know I am not moving toward my goals.

What Goals Are Really All About
Reaching my goals is more than just me reaching my goals. It’s about inspiring people, being a role model, getting fit, getting healthy, and getting in shape. And all that is going to give me more energy to build my business. It’s going to give me more energy and passion to share my message regarding entrepreneurship and making money online and health and fitness. If I don’t get fit and healthy, there could be somebody out there who I don't inspire and they could die prematurely because they didn’t lose the 30 pounds. Sure, these may be extreme things that I’m thinking about, but you have to play tricks on your mind. Your mind is constantly trying to sabotage your best intentions.

Your mind is not out to do what you really, truly want to accomplish. It’s out to protect itself from millions of years of wiring. Do not let it play tricks on you.

So when I hesitate going to the gym, I go anyway and crush it. Why? Because I want to be successful. I want to inspire people. I want to have the energy. I want to be fit. I want to live a long life. I want to inspire. I want to be a role model.

Where Will Today’s Decision Take You?
I know I can take a moment of decision right now that can define where I’m going to be six months, 12 months, 18 months down the road. In 18 months, you may turn to my YouTube channel and say, “Holy crap, this guy got jacked. He got fit. He got healthy. How did he do it?”

I’ll tell you how I did it. I made the right decision every single day. Even when it was tough, even when my mind was playing tricks on me, I made the right decision. Now, I’m not going to be perfect. I know I’m going to fall off here and there. But overall, 95 percent of the time, I will make the right decision. And you can as well.

Do not let that mind screw you over. Do not take self-defeating thoughts at face value.
