Please Don’t Give Up

I know there are folks out there who are struggling. I used to be one of them. About five years ago, I was dead broke. I was in debt to the tune of $23,000. I was living at home with my parents. I didn’t even have enough money to bring a girl out on a date. It was that bad. My number one priority was trying to get enough money to buy a pack of cigarettes. That was my life.

You probably know that I’ve come a long way—I’ve made a lot of mistakes, had a lot of wins, and had a lot of losses. But the main thing that you need to know is that this journey of entrepreneurship, this journey of finding success, whatever it is to you, it is a journey in itself. It takes time. It’s easy to look at people who maybe have what you don’t have—health, wealth, maybe a relationship—and say, “Wow, they just got it like that, but here I am struggling.”

Stumbling Blocks
The truth is that, on this journey, you are going to encounter stumbling blocks. You’re going to get punched in the face by life. You’re going to face challenges.

What we don’t realize is those people who have really succeeded, the ones we are amazed by, they worked for it. They pushed themselves. They went through negative situations and came out the other end. They made it happen. They survived.

It Takes Time
You’ve got to learn to be patient. Becoming a millionaire doesn’t happen overnight. Losing 40 to 50 pounds doesn’t happen overnight. Finding your soul mate doesn’t happen overnight. If you want to be successful in business, if you want to lose weight, if you want to get a great relationship or just create a great life or build happiness, it’s going to take time.

I think a lot of us have these expectations that it’s just going to happen all of a sudden. We live in a society where everything is boom, boom, boom, quick. But real success and happiness takes time. This journey is a journey in itself. You’ve got to take each step one at a time. So many times we’re trying to find shortcuts and get there quicker and find loopholes. But that’s not how this journey works.

The Vision
I know what it’s like to be struggling. I know what it’s like to think to yourself, “Can I  ever quit my job? Can I ever make it work on eBay? Can I ever fire my boss? Could I ever wake up and look at myself in the mirror and feel proud of my body? Will I ever have that person there who I really care for and love?”

I know what it’s like to struggle and go through hard times, but I want to encourage you to have that vision of where you want to go. Have that ultimate vision, allow yourself to go through that journey, and know that you will be going up and down, up and down, slowly but surely. You’re going to keep going up, but you’re always going to get knocked down once in a while too. It always happens. That’s the journey of life, especially in entrepreneurship, whether that’s eBay or Amazon, or in other areas of life as well.

Believe in Yourself
If you’re struggling right now, stay true to yourself, believe in yourself, and have that vision, but ultimately you will need to understand that that journey is going to be one of many ups and downs and setbacks and wins and losses and peaks and valleys. It’s just part of the game. That’s why it’s so important to have that circle of positive people you interact with, whether that’s on Facebook or just in the YouTube comments or some type of membership site or a course you’re a part of. Maybe you have a local meetup group.

It’s so important to have that strength by your side, that inner circle, to help you when things get tough—because it is tough. Life is tough, and we’ve got to learn to be patient and keep going.
