RPS #103 – Don’t Go to Bed (Late-Night Motivation #1)

Don’t Go to Bed (Late-Night Motivation #1)

It was about 11:15 p.m. I had just gotten out of my little community gym, and a thought came to me.

Most people were probably in bed or getting ready to go to bed. I started looking around in the parking lot. I saw nobody out there. And I thought about how most people go to sleep without accomplishing their goals, without doing the things that they know they need to be doing.

One of my biggest goals was to lose weight and get fit. I’d blown up to about 210 pounds. So I took a year and worked really hard to get to the gym, to eat right, to exercise, and to make it happen. Now I’m weighing in at 177 pounds. The reason is because I put in that work. I haven’t allowed myself to go bed without doing what I know I need to do.

Get It Done
If you’re lying in bed right now and have things that you know you need to do, get it done right now. We only live one life, and you don’t know how much time you have left. Time is precious, and you deserve to be happy. You deserve to accomplish your goals. You deserve to be proud of yourself. So don’t go to bed before doing everything that you want to do because there’s no guarantee for the next day.

As I stood there in the parking lot that night, I looked over at an apartment building nearby and was curious how many people had gone to sleep without doing what they knew they needed to do.

Maybe they forgot to say thank you to that person who had done something really nice for them. Maybe they hadn’t gone out for a walk. Maybe that was their goal—to go for a walk every day. Maybe they had a goal of reading 10 minutes each day so they could grow, develop, learn, and get ahead in their field. Don’t go to bed without doing what you need to do.

It’s Within Your Grasp
That’s the message here. You can do it. You can accomplish it. It’s not pretty. It’s not beautiful. It’s not luxurious staying up late to get to the gym to make it happen, but sometimes you got to do it.

And in that moment in the parking lot of the gym, I knew when I woke up in the morning, I was going to thank myself and say, “Thank you. Thank you for putting in that hard work when you were a little bit tired because that’s going to benefit you. That’s going to help you.”

And knowing that made me happy.

True Happiness

I think that’s the way true happiness is. You attack your goals and progress in life and grow. You do things that you don’t feel like doing but know that they are going to benefit you.

Go make today a great day. Get things done, and don’t let another day slip by without doing what you know you need to do. You might not have another day.
