How to Take AMAZING Pictures on eBay WITHOUT Being a Professional Photographer

If you have been selling on eBay for any length of time, then you know how important it is to take really good pictures of your items.

Now, a lot of people are under the misconception that to take great pictures, you need an expensive camera. Many people just getting started in this business are on a budget, but for some reason they go out and spend $500, $800, or even $1,000 on a high-priced DSL camera. That’s not necessary.

It’s Not the Camera!
What you need to realize is that probably the biggest thing that is going to determine the quality of your pictures is not your camera—it’s your lighting. Your lighting is the most important thing when it comes to taking really good pictures for your eBay items.

What I have is a couple light stands with a daylight fluorescent light and an umbrella. This setup will diffuse the light, which is going to help your photos come out more natural-looking. They won’t appear overly contrasted or overly brightened.

Some people will have the daylight fluorescent lights but then turn on other lights that cast a really yellow hue, but doing that gives the photos an unnatural look. And don’t forget to shut the blinds too! You want to control the lighting as much as you can.

What do you do if you don’t have light stands right now? Well, you could take your pictures in a room that has a lot of natural light. I’ve even seen some people shoot outside.

Don’t Forget the Background
Another important thing to take into consideration when shooting pictures is your background. Have a nice, clean, distraction-free background. One option is to go out and buy a backdrop.

Go to eBay or Amazon and look up “backdrop.” You’ll see backdrops with three poles and paper or vinyl in the background. Or a cheap alternative is just to have a nice white wall, but it needs to be plain.

You Probably Already Have a Great Camera in Your Pocket
When it comes to your camera, you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars. I’m shooting my pictures for eBay on my iPhone 6S Plus, which creates amazing photos.

I’m also loving listing on my phone now. I’ve just started doing it, and I am hooked. I don’t see myself going back to shooting pictures on a traditional camera, pulling out the memory card, and uploading to the computer. The cameras on phones are good now. They’re clear. They do the job.

The Essentials                                                                                            If you’ve got a smart phone, good light, and a good, clean, distraction-free background, you’re going to be able to take excellent pictures for your eBay business.

Now, I’m not a pro. My pictures may not be top-of-the-line professional, but I’d say that they’re very good. I think they look clean and professional. And I think when customers come to my listings, they believe that I’ve provided high-quality photos.

You don’t have to be a professional photographer to sell your items on eBay. Just describe them accurately, take a lot of nice, clean pictures, and be consistent with your listing and sourcing. Price competitively, and you’ll make money in your eBay business.
