RPS #118 – 5 Beginner Tips For Selling On Ebay

5 Beginner Tips for Selling on eBay
Here are five tips that I wish somebody would have told me when I first got started selling on eBay.

#1: Listing Is King
This one is short and sweet and vitally important. If you want to make more money on eBay, you’re going to have to list more. Bottom line—the more you list, the more money you’re going to make.

#2: The Sell Similar Button Is Your Friend
Instead of creating a brand-new listing, find the item that you want to sell, a comparable item, and hit Sell Similar. It’s going to fill out all the blank spots, a lot of the item specifics, and the title. It’s going to generate a lot of information based on the previous listing. All you’re going to have to do is take pictures, make your description, and then switch up a few of the item specifics if it’s something different than your item. That’s going to save you a lot of time.

#3: What’s Your Time Worth?
Figure out what your time is worth. It’s so important. I see people who are listing a bunch of items. It takes them seven or eight minutes to list each item, and then obviously they have to pick it, pack it, ship it, and perform customer service, and they only make a dollar or two. If you do that long enough, you’re going to give up because you’re going to think that there’s no money to be made.

Make sure when you buy an item that there’s enough money in it to make it worth your time based on what your time is worth.

#4: Get Around Like-Minded People
Get around like-minded people. Create master minds. I’m telling you right now when you’re new, you’re going to get knocked down. You’re going to get a return. You’re going to have an issue. You’re going to have something that you buy and lose money on. You will need to have people in your corner—whether it’s a community on YouTube or a Facebook group like the Green Room. Maybe it’s someone locally or a friend or a family member you start your eBay business with. You’ve got to have people who are in the corner with you who could support you when things go wrong because just like anything in life, it’s not always going to be a smooth ride.

Are you going make mistakes? Yes. Are you going to lose money here and there? Yes. Is it going to be easy starting an eBay business? No. Is it going to take time to figure things out? Yes. I’m being 100 percent honest with you. You’ve got to have people there when things go wrong. Get a community by your side, or just have somebody who you can mastermind with from time to time, who understands where you are and what you’re
dealing with.

#5: Use eBay to Print Out Labels
I see people making this mistake all the time. Time is valuable. It’s the most precious asset that you have as an entrepreneur. You want to use your time wisely. So you need to make sure that you’re printing out your labels through the eBay system. Why? Because you’re going to get a discount by shipping through eBay. Also, you’re going to save time being able to pay for postage online, print your label, and slap it on your package right then and there versus having to wait in line at the post office.

Take Action
If you are new on eBay, take massive action, but let these five tips help you get started. It’s not going to be a smooth ride. There are going to be bumps. There are going to be issues that come up. But these tips will help you get over your obstacles when you face them.

Now go make it happen.
