RPS #141 – Take a Step Back…

Take a Step Back

In all the hustle and bustle of life, sometimes we forget that it is okay every now and then to step back from business, hobbies, or whatever to gain clarity.

A lot of people in life are a little disappointed or feel as though they’ve been short- changed in a sense in terms of health, or fitness, or business, or money. Often that’s because we get stuck in the rat race. We get stuck in the grind. We get stuck doing what we’re normally doing on a regular basis because human beings are creatures of habit.

The Value in Reevaluating
The results that we have in life, the outcomes, are mainly due to the things that we’re doing on a regular basis. These things then turn into habits, and in order to change, we really need to take a second to reevaluate what we’re doing, our values, and why we’re doing these things. We need to take a step back to reflect. I’ve done that myself over the course of a week or a week and a half, not only in terms of my YouTube channel and the overall vision of it, but my business and relationships and different things like that as well.

If you ever find yourself feeling like you’re on a hamster wheel and just running in place—working hard but not getting the results you want, watching the months fly by on your calendar but only getting the same results without changing the way you wanted to—then try to take a step back.

Are You Stuck in the Wrong Habits?
At times we’re not getting what we want because we’re stuck in the wrong habits. We’re stuck doing what we’re comfortable doing. What we do on a regular basis is what we expect to become acquainted with. We get comfortable, we get used to it, and we get put in this box.

To get out of that box and change, you’ve got to reevaluate. Take some time for yourself. Meditate. Walk. Eat healthy. Brainstorm. Get out a pen and pad and start writing down the things you want to do and why you want to do them. Then start talking to friends and colleagues and associates. Just don’t be scared to take that step back.

Many people say consistency is key—and I’m the first to say that—and that the people who succeed do so because they stick with it and don’t give up. But every now and then, you do need to take a step back, whether it’s for a day or two, or for a week, or two weeks, or a month, and reevaluate.

Ask yourself, “Am I climbing up the right ladder?” If you’re trying to get to a certain destination and have your ladder leaned up against the wrong house, it doesn’t matter what you do or how hard you climb that ladder. If your ladder is leaning against the wrong house, you’re just not going to get to where you want to go.

Take a Moment Right Now

Take a second right now to think about your life and where you are. Ask yourself, “Do I need to reevaluate? Do I need to take a step back?” And if you feel that you need to, then do it.

Take a step back.
