RPS #156 – It Took Me 5 Years to Realize This…

What’s going on everybody. Steve here, Raiken Profit, RaikenProfit.com, coming back to you with another video.

I want to share with you some information and some content about something that I’m going through personally right now that could help you out if you’re looking to start a business, or you’re looking to begin a journey. Whether that’s a fitness journey or some type of journey in your finances, or an Ebay business, or an Amazon business. I’m not sure exactly what it is you’re going through, but personally, for me, I’m relating this to my real estate journey that I’m getting ready to embark on.

If you have seen some of my previous videos, I made a video talking about my goal of buying my first real estate property by March 1, 2019. I’m looking to buy … I’ve kind of defined it to a three to a four unit duplex, and I want to live there for at least a year, maybe more, owner occupied. I want to learn the real estate business, the landlording business, so on and so forth.

I share that with you because, a lot of times we have a goal, maybe we want to buy a piece of real estate, or we want to start an Ebay business, or we want to quit our job. But in order to actually accomplish that goal, it might take 50, 60, 70 steps to get there. A lot of times a worthy goal is going to take a lot of hard work. The problem that I was starting to fall into and the mistake that I was beginning to make, and you could probably connect this as well to what you’re going after is, I started to research things that were irrelevant. For example, right now, where I am, I did months of research, I had a good foundation built.

For me, it was time to start taking action. What I really needed to focus on was, one, getting connected with a real estate agent, a buyer’s agent, so I can get access to the MLS and I can start getting leads fed to me. I can start analyzing properties, going to properties, looking at them, because you’re going to need a real estate agent to go see these properties. So on and so forth.

And number two, I needed to get pre-approved. The problem that I was … The big mistake that I was making is, I wasn’t getting started because I thought that I had to know everything. I was researching how to sign up tenants, when I get a tenant into the property, how do I create the documents? How do I manage tenants? How do I deal with legality issues and bookkeeping? I’m researching things that are step 35, 38, 56, step 59, step 80. And the biggest problem is, when you’re hot, when you’re motivated, when you’re excited about something, that motivation is very short lived unless you begin to take action.

If you’re motivated, start taking action on step one. Take care of step one and then take care of step two and take care of step three. In the past, what I’ve done is, I would be super excited about something, I would research things like crazy, I would get burnt out and then I wouldn’t take action, and then a month or two would go by and I made no progress towards the goal.

The big commitment that I’ve made to myself and the big realization that I’ve come to is, listen, it’s great to get a solid foundational education in order to get started. Research for a week, two weeks, three weeks. Network with people, watch videos, listen to podcasts, read books, and I’ve been doing all of that. But it comes to a point where you’ve got to draw the line in the sand and say to yourself, “Okay, it’s time to get started. I don’t need to understand step 97. I see the vision, I understand the direction I have to go to, or the destination where I’m headed, and it’s time to get started. Let’s write down five things that I could do to start making progress towards my goal.”

You might be in a situation where you want to start an Ebay business but you’re trying to figure out the inventory system. You’re trying to figure out, what are the best items to buy and sell? You’re trying to figure out, how do I get Quickbooks to work? I got to hire a CPA. I gotta sign up for a … I need to go get an LLC because what if I get sued, this and that. And here’s the thing guys, we worry way too much. We need to have faith in the process. Take that first step and have the faith and the belief that step two, step three, step four, will come.

This is the big realization that I’ve come to, and even being in business for five or six years, you’re still learning things about yourself, and I just want to share this with you on camera and be 100% real. I have been taking massive amounts of action. I’ve actually been talking to quite a few real estate agents, and there’s one that I actually really like right now. I was at one of his properties, his investment properties, and he was showing me around. He was fully gutting it. He had a four family, it was really cool. Young guy, but just super cool and educated. I’ve got three more interviews with agents as well. I’m just feeling everybody out, getting a feel for what I like, what I don’t like, and I’m about to lock that down and start analyzing deals, start going to properties.

That’s what’s going on on my end. Been learning so much. Been hanging out on The Bigger Pockets Forum. I’ve been reading a bunch of books. But the most important thing is, I began taking action. I started contacting real estate agents. I started taking that first step, because you can’t get to step 30 unless you take out step number one.

Think about that in your life, your business, your journey. What is that? Maybe it’s fitness. Maybe you got to sign up for that gym membership and get that started, or sign up with that agreement for the personal trainer. Highly recommend a personal trainer if you’re really serious about fitness. Maybe it’s hiring that real estate agent and taking care of that so you can start seeing properties and analyzing deals. Maybe it’s … I don’t know, buying a camera so you can take pictures, or learning how to use the Ebay app so you can start listing. What is step number one for you? Take care of step number one, crush step number one, get past that. Then, once you start getting past at one, two, three, four, you’re going to get some momentum and when you match up motivation with momentum, that’s when magical things start to happen.

I’m pumped up this morning, hopefully you guys are as well. If you enjoyed this video, do me a big favor and smash that like button down below.
