ABOUT SELLING ON CRAIGSLIST
Difficulty to Get Started: Very easy
Craigslist is another very easy income stream to start making money from online and is a great way to make some quick cash. Now, when it comes to Craigslist, it’s a bit different than the other income streams I’ll be talking to you about. The reason is because Craigslist is centered mostly around doing business with people face to face in the physical world. If you are not a people person, and prefer to make money online not having to meet people in real life, than I would consider another income stream. With that being said, Craigslist does have a lot of great benefits for getting started making money online.
Cost to Start This Business: $0 to $50+
Thrifting profitable products from places like Goodwill, Savers, and Salvation Army to resell on Craigslist won’t require much investment. Also, since you will be selling these items to people in real life you won’t need to invest in any shipping supplies or equipment which will save on your initial investment to get this business started.
Income potential: $1,000+ per month
Craigslist was actually the first business I started with in terms of making money online. My first year in business I flipped a couple hundred bicycles and earned about $10,000. This took about 3 months for me. Depending on your location and the product opportunities you have it’s pretty easy to make $1,000 a month locally selling on Craigslist.
How Long to Start Making Money: 1 week to 1months
Just like eBay and Amazon FBA one of the key factors that will determine your success is how much you study and research. Learning what items have a market, what items are undervalued, and what items sell quickly will play a big roll in how long it takes to start making money in your business. Study, study, and study some more and you will find the profiting rolling in much quicker than expected!
How much time does this business require: 10 to 40+ hours per week
The cool thing about selling on Craigslist is you can put in as little or as much time as you’d like. When I started selling on Craigslist I spend about 2-3 hours per day scanning the Craigslist for sale section and meeting up with people to purchase and then resell the items.
Passive: No
One of the downsides to selling on Craigslist is it takes a bit of time. From studying, to sourcing, to reselling the products the hours put in can really ad up. If you’re looking for a scalable, passive business this will not be the business for you. But, if you’re looking for a business that can make you quick cash with very little risk this is right up your alley!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What sells best on Craigslist?
You can sell mostly anything on Craigslist. I’ve found that bigger and heavier items tend to do best. Bicycles, outdoor sporting items, kitchen items such as blenders, and even computer items can do really well. Spend some time to look through your local Craigslist listings and can an idea of what items people are selling.
What’s the best way to get started selling on Amazon FBA?
For most people I would reccomend getting started sourcing items from thrift stores, garage sales, and retail stores. Once you start to build your experience and comfort level with the FBA program, I would then advice to move onto more lucrative opportunities such as wholesale and private label.
Where is the safest place to meet someone to do a deal?
I’d reccomend meeting at public locations with a lot of people such as coffee shops. Avoid meeting people at your house or in empty locations.
How do I determine the value of an item I am selling on Craigslist?
The best way to do this is to first look on eBay to see what items are selling for and then see what the others are selling for locally on Craigslist. Typically you will be able to get about 70% of the eBay price locally on Craigslist. Don’t forget one of the benefits to selling on Craigslist is being paid in cash plus not having to spend money on shipping and fees!
Should I put my real phone number on Craigslist?
No, I would set up a google voice phone number.
Should I sell items to people that want to pay through a check?
No, this is a scam. Cash only!!
Do you have any negotiation tips for Craigslist?
Never be the first one to name a price. Always know the minimum price you’d be willing to accept for your item in which you’re selling on Craigslist before negotiations begin. Be willing to walk away.
